On Saturday as it was still sakura (cherry blossom) season (actually Saturday was supposed to be the peak day, it's all downhill from there) after lunch over at someone's house a group of us walked along the Shukugawa canal in Kobe which is supposed to be one of the prime viewing sites in the Kansai area (Kyoto/Osaka/Kobe). It was amazingly beautiful with a canopy of cherry blossoms over the canal side walkway.
At the end of the canal is the ocean, complete with a beach which one member of our group jokingly refers to as little Hawaii as it has the ocean, beach and palm trees. However another member of the group was actually from Hawaii and just the slightest bit of dismissive about this little Hawaii, though she did agree to give us all hula lesson right there on the beach. The locals must have wondered what we were up to!
As you can see from the pictures it was a pretty grey day with intermittent rain but that didn't stop many from enjoying the fleeting sakura season. Nope, they were out with tarps, umbrellas, picnic shelters, you name it (along of course with loads of food and the requisite cans of beer). Included is one picture of these persistent Ohanami revellers.
